In traffic control, channelizer drums play a critical role in guiding and protecting both motorists and construction crews. However, not all channelizer drums are created equal. Among the various types, high-density and low-density channelizer drums offer distinct features and benefits that cater to different needs and scenarios.
The main use case for both High Density Drums and Low Density Drums comes down to environmental factors. High Density Channelizer Drums (HDPE) will offer greater performance in areas with higher average temperatures – ensuring the structural integrity of the channelizer drum; whereas the Low Density will perform better in colder climates as it will become less brittle, preventing breakage on impact.
While many manufacturers claim to produce a low-density traffic drum, TrafFix Devices have engineered and tested our Low Density Channelizer Drum to be 100% LDPE.
At TrafFix Devices, we use only the highest-grade polyethylene resins to manufacture our plastic products. This high-quality craftsmanship helps extend the life of our products well beyond that of traditional plastics. Our products can easily be recycled and reused. This helps keep plastic from being added to our landfills and saves you money in the process.
Engineering excellence
Our engineers ensure that irrespective of High Density or Low Density, we do not compromise. We ensure that the drums will perform the same when inhibiting UV and the potential damage. As these channelizers will be deployed on our roadways for long periods it is vital that they maintain their color properties and that the orange remains vibrant.
Since 1987, TrafFix Devices, Inc. has been providing their customers with the most value for their channelizer drum dollars. The drum tops and bases we made in 1987 are still interchangeable with our current production model. At TrafFix Devices, we use only the highest-grade plastic resins to manufacture our delineator drums. Our drum tops and bases are designed to “break-away” rather than “break-apart” upon impact.
TrafFix Channelizer Drums are available in rugged, durable high density polyethylene; or impact resistant, reshape-able low density polyethylene.
Both high-density and low-density channelizer drums have their unique features and benefits, making them suitable for different traffic control scenarios. High-density drums offer superior durability, stability, and visibility, making them ideal for all traffic applications especially in warm areas. On the other hand, low-density drums provide a lightweight, flexible, solution ideal for cold climates. By understanding the specific needs of a project, traffic control professionals can choose the appropriate type of channelizer drum to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
